Career Opportunities: Manager, Gender & Conservation

Location: United States- Arlington, VA Headquarters

Description

Conservation International is committed to ensuring that human rights are respected within all of our work. One primary component of this work is on gender, and we work both internally and externally to promote gender-equitable conservation principles. This position will work closely with CI’s Advisor for Gender and Conservation and focus on supporting internal capacity building initiatives, developing communications materials, and providing advice to projects and programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

  • Gather and synthesize best practices and anecdotal stories/examples from across CI to develop a “lessons learned” document on how CI is integrating gender into conservation projects and programs-identifying major success, challenges, opportunities, and areas of further need.
  • Identify relevant brownbag presenters and help with event coordination

Capacity building

  • Support the Gender & Conservation Advisor to develop training materials (guidelines, presentations, videos, etc.) for CI’s internal capacity building on gender
  • Help to develop/design additional specific-subject tools for staff

Advising
  • Help to develop gender-related recommendations for CI’s Climate Policy Team and for specific policy engagements (e.g. CBD, UNFCCC, UNCCD, GCF, NBSAPS, etc.)
  • General advising to CI projects and programs as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor degree in gender, international development, or a relevant field.
  • Experience with application of gender concepts in the conservation/environment context.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independent, creative and well organized.

Preferred

  • Graduate degree in gender, international development, or a relevant field.
  • Experience working in an international environment, preferably at the field/community level.
  • Familiarity with community-based conservation principles and practices.
  • Experience with google website design, PowerPoint or Prezi, graphic design.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language, such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Indonesian.
