CALL FOR PAPERS AND INVITATION
For whom is anthropology applied and to what ends?
From drug use, to abortion, the environment, disability, religious passion, etc., anthropologists have written both about these matters, and for various kinds of changes in policy. Many anthropologists are directly working in the institutions researchers also examine, from veterans’ hospitals, to rural development NGOs, family welfare agencies attempting to “indigenize,” among many others.
Join us at Teachers College, Columbia University for a small, conversation rich conference on the uses of anthropology. We are meeting of February 26, 2015 to discuss the history, current state, and possible futures surrounding various efforts to put to work anthropology on burning issues of the contemporary world, in the United States and around the world. Jean Lave will be the key-note speaker.
We welcome the submission of abstracts for 15-20 minute paper presentations on any of the above topics. Please submit abstracts and any questions to Daniel Souleles and Michael Scroggins at anthroevents@tc.columbia. edu by January 30th, 2015.
