Internship Announcement:

Public Policy Intern for Historic Preservation Organization
Preservation Action is the only national non-profit organization
dedicated exclusively to lobbying for the best preservation policies at
the federal level. We seek to make historic preservation a national
priority by advocating to all branches of government through a
grassroots constituency empowered with information and training.
Preservation Action offers this internship that will cover areas such as
preservation advocacy, congressional affairs, policy analysis, and
political writing and research. As an intern at Preservation Action you
will have an opportunity to impact policy and engage legislative and
preservation professionals. The Preservation Action office is located in
the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC, and interns will
have access to a pool of leaders in the preservation community from
across the country. A primary focus of this internship with include
assisting in Preservation Action’s outreach efforts, state-member
engagement, grant-funded programs and the Advocacy Scholars
program. Candidates should be able to work about 15-20 hours per
week and are on a volunteer basis. Every effort will be made to
cooperate with individual university internship programs to enable
interns to earn course credit.

Ideal candidates are historic preservation or public policy students,
recent graduates or young professionals seeking relevant
organizational experience in their field and on Capitol Hill. Experience
with legislative policy, advocacy, communications, and knowledge of
Congressional proceedings are assets. Knowledge of historic
preservation policy is important. Ability to work independently, take 
initiative, and communicate/coordinate with the Preservation Team is
essential.

Work will also include preparation for initiatives surrounding the 50th
Anniversary of the 1966 Historic Preservation Act, including the
November 2015 National Preservation Conference and the March 2016
Annual Preservation Action Advocacy Week.

Experience with Microsoft Office, RegOnline, WordPress, GiftWorks,
and Constant Contact is a plus.
