Job Description
The Department of Anthropology, University of Maryland, anticipates hiring a one year post-doctoral fellow, with the potential for a second year, starting in August 2014. We seek a scholar who examines health, illness, medicine and/or healing processes, preferably with a research focus in the areas of health inequities and social justice among underserved populations. Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field must be in hand by commencement of fellowship and preferably received within the past five years. Successful applicants must demonstrate existing or the high potential for active research agenda with publications, field experience, and teaching excellence. It is also expected that extramural support will be developed, either singly or in collaboration with current faculty. Geographic area is open.
The Fellow, who will be appointed as a Research Associate, will teach one course per semester and is expected to work collaboratively with faculty in the department, college, and/or university to advance the fellow’s research agenda. The successful candidate will also serve as research role model for underrepresented minority students and to help mentor these students. They are also expected to contribute to the vibrant intellectual communities in the Department of Anthropology and other programs throughout the college and the university. Compensation is a twelve month appointment for one year renewal up to two years at $45,000/year with benefits plus $5,000 each year for research support.
