The General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) of the United Methodist Church is an agency within the denomination responsible for ensuring racial equity, diversity and cultural competency at every level of the church. Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Team Leader for Institutional Equity, the Research and Data Integrity Specialist will work in partnership with GCORR leadership to develop and implement a research plan for the organization. The Research and Data Integrity Specialist will plan, coordinate, conduct and report findings from various GCORR studies.
The Specialist will consult with GCORR staff to determine research needs and works with other denominational agencies and ecumenical groups to obtain and analyze and report information to the church in ways that are compelling, accurate, and action-inspiring. The Specialist will use classical and emerging methods of gathering data in a global church context.
Responsibilities:
1. Design executable and credible research studies consistent with the GCORR strategic plan. Assure that studies are executed using credible qualitative and quantitative methodologies by researchers to provide valid and credible findings (i.e., Best practices, Multiculturalism)
2. Develops, conducts, analyze and reports the results of research projects/surveys that address racial equity in various positions in the United States, with special attention to emerging issues and under-represented groups in the church (i.e., Cross-Racial/Cross-cultural appointments).
3. Work with staff of GSRW and GCFA to develop, conduct, analyze, and report results of annual desk audits of annual conferences, UM-Related seminaries and general church agencies regarding people of color, measuring progress annually and quadrennially.
4. Engage consultants in research and statistical analysis on behalf of GCORR.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Extensive education and work in the area of multiculturalism and inter-cultural competency
• Excellent communication skills required
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Bachelor’s required/Master’s degree preferred in a related field
Compensation:
Annual salary of $60,000, pension benefits, 22 days of paid vacation sick leave, comprehensive
medical, dental and accidental death insurance; other benefits as outlined in the Employee
Personnel Manual. This is a full-time exempt position with 5% travel. The position is located in
Washington, DC – paid relocation assistance is negotiable.
